West Polk SWCD partners with the MN Department of Agriculture in the AgBMP Loan Program.

This is a water quality program that provides low interest loans to farmers, rural landowners, and agriculture supply businesses to implement water quality improvement projects.
These loans are meant to encourage water quality protection and may only be used to solve existing water quality problems.
Loan Terms:
Maximum Loan Amount - $200,000
Maximum Loan Length:
  • Conservation Tillage Equipment – 5 years
  • Well Sealing – 10 years
  • Animal Waste Storage – 10 years
  • Septic Systems – 10 years
Eligible Activities:
  • Conservation Tillage Equipment
  • Existing Well Repair, Replacement or Treatment
  • Erosion Control
  • Manure Management
  • Feedlot Improvements
  • Septic Systems
  • Wetland Restoration
Ineligible Activities:
  • Financing projects already completed
  • New wells where a well does not currently exist
  • Current wells that are complaint with drinking water standards
  • Connection to central water when landowners is not currently using an existing private well
  • Wells used for irrigation or industrial processing
  • Replacing wells that have gone dry or have inadequate yield
  • Improvement for feedlots with more than 1,000 animal units
  • Most new construction projects​
The purpose is to encourage agricultural Best Management Practices that prevent or reduce runoff from feedlots, farm fields and other pollution problems identified by the county in local water plans.
